Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation can help patients with mild to moderate feelings of dental fear and/or discomfort achieve a genuinely calm state throughout their procedure. We’ll prescribe an anti-anxiety medication, and you will need to take it around an hour before your scheduled appointment. While you won’t be rendered fully unconscious and will still be capable of responding to our questions, many people who take oral conscious remember very little about the experience once they’ve recovered.
Please keep in mind that you will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you to and from our Hurst location when using oral conscious sedation – for your own safety!
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide can be paired with oral conscious sedation for a stronger effect or used alone for children and adults with mild dental anxiety. Most people know this substance by another, far sillier name – laughing gas! It’s administered through a mask that fits over the nose, and feelings of lightness and contentment should set in after a few minutes of exposure. Many patients prefer nitrous oxide because it provides a noticeable effect on their mental state during dental treatment without requiring a lengthy recovery period afterward. You should be able to return to your normal routine and even drive yourself safely following the procedure.
